At last another update! I have been busy the last couple of months working on some really cool and innovative projects. The first one released is the campaign website for Pioneer Kuro. I collaborated with the talented people from These Days and Sakri Rosenstorm - probably one of Belgium's best developers. It was a real joy to work with them both on this project and hopefully will do this again in the near future.
Besides all the projects I'm working on there is a lot of cool things happening at this moment. Unfortunely I can't tell you anything about it right now. Here's a small hint.

I'm very busy at the moment working on some very cool Flash9 projects! Because of these projects I haven't had the time to update the website as often as I wanted to do. Matter of fact, it feels like I'm working 24/7 to finish all those projects in time. It seems Flashaddict is growing fast. That's why I'm looking for freelance designers and developers who wish to work with clients like Adobe, ABN Amro, Sony Playstation and Sony Ericsson. I will setup a page this week with some more information. In the meantime if you are interested please drop me a line using the contact section.

Most of you probably know that I'm big fan of Jordan Stone and Martin Hughes their work. Together they form WEFAIL and are responsible for websites like eminem.com, dixiechicks.com, bobschneidermusic.com and of course matthewmahon.com.
I was happily suprised when I found out that Martin updated his website with his life story that runs through the entire misery of his life to date. "A visual tour de France" as Jordan says.

Little Big Planet

Until yesterday I was very sceptic about the Playstation3 which btw. still isn't released in Europe! IMHO just a lot of power but nothing new concerning gameplay. This week Sony announced their first "game 3.0" title Little Big Planet and I have to admit that this game really changed my mind about the console.
In Little Big Planet the goal of the game is to reach the end of a level by simply running, jumping and using physics. You can do this simply on your own or cooperate with some friends. Nothing new so far. The coolest part of the game is that everyone can create their own levels and share them using the internet. Creating levels is so easy and fun to do - check out the presentation (part 1 and part 2) Sony gave at the GDC to see what I mean!

Lately I've been working a lot with Flex2.0 and FlexBuilder. I really love them both but found it quite annoying that Firefox opens a tab everytime I launched a new build of my application. Luckily I was not the only one and today the guys from Weeler Street Design found the solution to this problem. In short: start Firefox, type: "about:config" in the address bar, search for "browser.link.open_external" and change its value to "1". Thanks guys!
[update] It seems the problem only occurs in Firefox2.0 and later

While I am still trying to get my hands on a Nintendo Wii; some others already made a connection between Flash and the Nintendo Wiimote controller (here and here). I can't wait to get my hands on a Wiimote and start experimenting with it!

The past couple of years we've been asking Macromedia and Adobe for 3D support in Flash. Unfortunately they never answered our requests and it looks like 3D features in Flash are a long way down the road.
It seems Papervision3d; an opensource 3D engine for Flash is going to change that. At this moment the engine is creating a real buzz on the internet. I've been following the developments of Papervision3d closely and I am amazed by what it is capable of. I never seen complex 3D models animate this smooth and fast in Flash. You have to visit the official website to see it for yourself (make sure you've seen the X-Wing demo by John Grdn).
I was happily surprised when I found out that Ralph Hauwert joined the core team. Ralph is one of the best Flash developers I know and I am sure his contribution will take the project to a next level. If you want to get involved or want keep up to date I recommend you join the mailinglist.

For weeks I have been working day and night, living on just pizza and Red Bull, neglecting my social life and haven't seen any light but that of my monitor! But it was all worth it! Today I give you the new and improved Flashaddict! :-)
At this moment the website isn't completely finished. But I am too proud and too anxious to wait any longer with releasing it. I will add the last pages - my resume, experiments and weblog - as soon as possible.
Although opensource engines like Papervision3D and Sandy get a lot of attention these days. I decided to build my own for Flashaddict. I did this because in the first place I wanted to learn more about 3D math. Secondly, when I started to build Flashaddict none of the two engines mentioned were available :-)
